Teachings of the Bodhisattva path\, the interpenetration of phenomena (dharmas)\, the visionary powers of meditation and the equality of things in emptiness. This Sunday we celebrate this deep teaching.

These observations fell on Full Moon periods of the lunar calendar. And so WLHZ continues in this practice tradition by reciting together the Five Precepts of ethical conduct.

DESCRIPTION:Seon (Zen) Practice Services are held each Sunday from 9:00am-11:00am at the Historic Axe Factory building in Collinsville\, Connecticut. For those new to Seon practice\, please arrive at 8:30am for a brief introduction to the forms\, which include chanting\, bowing\, sitting and walking meditation. \nAfter having studied with ascetics\, Siddhartha Gautama sat 49 days of meditation and at the age of 35\, he is said to have attained Enlightenment\, and became known as the Buddha or “Awakened One”. He realized complete insight into the Four Noble Truths\, thereby attaining liberation from samsara\, the endless cycle of rebirth\, suffering and death. This Sunday we commemorate this important event.

DESCRIPTION:On this day the WLHZ community celebrates the anniversary of its founding by giving thanks to the noble ancestors and teachers who gave their lives to practicing and sharing Buddha wisdom with us. In particular\, we recognise our two lineage masters\, His Holiness Il Bung Kyung Bo Seo\, PhD (the first Korean Patriarch to the West / Il Bung Zen Order 일붕선정)\, His Holiness Thích Thiên Ân (the first Vietnamese Patriarch to the West / Lâm Tế Thiền Order). We also honor the tradition and teachings of Seung Sahn Dae Soen Sa Nim (Linji Seon\, Rinzai Zen) and Taizan Maezumi Roshi (Soto and Rinzai Zen). \nReception with potluck meal to follow the service.
