SUMMARY:Zen Practice Service - Uposatha Observance
DESCRIPTION:Seon (Zen) Practice Services are held each Sunday from 9:00am-11:00am at the Historic Axe Factory building in Collinsville\, Connecticut. For those new to Zen practice\, please arrive at 8:30am for a brief introduction to the forms\, which include chanting\, bowing\, sitting\, and walking meditation.   \nThe Uposatha Observation is an ancient practice in which both lay and monastic practitioners placed special effort\, attention to renewing and rededicating themselves to the study and practice of the Dharma. These observations fell on Full Moon periods of the lunar calendar. And so WLHZ continues in this practice tradition by reciting together the Five Precepts of ethical conduct.

SUMMARY:Morning Kido (Chanting Liturgy)
DESCRIPTION:Kido literally means “The Way of Energy.” And so\, the daily Kido chanting liturgy is an intentional form of meditative practice using the body — breath\, sound\, and vibration — as a means of self-surrender and opening of mind-heart in humility. \nThe chant forms used derive from Buddhist Mahayana tradition sutras and are transliterated into Korean. We use both short and longer forms of practice as determined by the Abbot\, specific occasions\, or time of season. \nKido is held each day from 7-8am except Wednesdays. All are welcomed. If you would like to participate\, please email us in advance\, using “Kido” in the subject line\, at: https://wlhz.org/contact/  \nFrom Zen Master Seung Sahn: \n“Chanting meditation means keeping a not-moving mind and perceiving the sound of your own voice. Perceiving your voice means perceiving your true self or true nature. Then you and the sound are never separate\, which means that you and the whole universe are never separate. Thus\, to perceive our true nature is to perceive universal substance. With regular chanting\, our sense of being centered gets stronger and stronger. When we are strongly centered\, we can control our feelings\, and thus our condition and situation.” \n*Schedule and/or practice form is subject to change due to weather conditions\, unforeseen circumstances\, or ceremonial preparation.

For those new to Seon practice\, please arrive at 8:30am for a brief introduction to the forms\, which include chanting\, bowing\, sitting\, and walking meditation. \nThe Uposatha Observation is an ancient practice in which both lay and monastic practitioners placed special effort\, and attention to renewing and rededicating themselves to the study and practice of the Dharma. These observations fell on Full Moon periods of the lunar calendar. And so WLHZ continues in this practice tradition by reciting together the Five Precepts of ethical conduct.
